Minotaur

The Minotaur is a hybrid of the Children of Oberon and a mortal race, presumably humans.

History[]

The Minotaur dwelt in the center of the original Labyrinth, and was slain by an Athenian prince, Theseus. Taurus, the Minotaur's descendant, views humans as dangerous in part because of this.

Real World History[]

In Greek mythology, the Minotaur was a creature that was part man and part bull (the result of an affair between Queen Pasiphae and a pure white bull which was intended to be sacrificed to Poseidon, the god of the sea).^[1] It dwelt at the centre of the Labyrinth, which was an elaborate maze-like construction^[2] built for King Minos of Crete and designed by the architect Daedalus and his son Icarus who were ordered to build it to hold the Minotaur. Every nine years, Minos would demand that young Athenians would be taken from their homes and locked in the Labyrinth, where the Minotaur would slaughter them (this was done out of revenge for the murder of his son). The historical site of Knossos is usually identified as the site of the labyrinth. The Minotaur was eventually killed by Theseus.

"Minotaur" is Greek for "Bull of Minos." The bull was known in Crete as Asterion, a name shared with Minos' foster father.
