Wyvern the dragon
Dragons were creatures similar to Gargoyles that lived in the caves near Wyvern Hill in Scotland. They are a sensation-capable race from the class of Gargates
History[]
There is not much evidence of dragons and although they are no longer so present on Earth, they left several relics behind. The Megalith Dance and the ruins in the Wyvern cave are also said to be connected to them. At some time, Brooklyn is said to have had an encounter with them on his TimeDancer.
The dragon Wyvern once brought the ancestors of the Wyvern Clan to Wyvern Hill, who made the solemn promise to protect his treasures from humans. This dragon probably also comes the name of the place and the clan.
Hudson himself once, shortly after waking up in New York City in 1994, confused a combat helicopter with a kite before Lexington correctly identified it as a "machine".But even years later, Hudson still describes helicopters as "modern dragons".
In modern times, dragons may have become extinct.
Biology[]
Dragons seem to be closely related to Gargoyles, as they were often referred to as cousins.
Outwardly, they resemble winged reptiles, as they have four legs, as well as two wings on the back. Their forelims are fully developed arms with hands and although they probably walk mainly on all fours when moving, they can also stand upright. At the 2024 CONvergence, it was suggested that dragons, like gargoyles, are not capable of true flight. Instead, dragons like Wyvern vault themselves into a glide thanks to the strength of the dragon's legs (and perhaps tail). Their skin is resistant enough so that arrows can easily bounce off them and only gargoyles with their claws could tear them open so far. Also, the eyes seem to light up rather yellow, at least in one representative, instead of the well-known white or red. The dragons are especially known for being able to breathe fire.
Dragons also have an excellent sense of smell, as it was possible for Wyvern to smell something "wrong" on Thailog as a clone.
In addition, dragons are also very intelligent and have a linguistic language, which is why they can also converse normally with gargoyles and people.
Like all gargates, dragons also sleep in the stone sleep, whereby they can apparently even control theirs instead of rhythmically sticking to the daily cycles. For example, Wyvern was first found by Gargoyles in a stone sleep before he woke up because he had apparently perceived her presence. Whether dragons can consciously sleep over the centuries or are even very durable is still unclear, since Wyvern was in the 10th century. Century has apparently already lived for several centuries and even survived until the 20th century. They also heal their injuries, although they apparently need decades for a broken tooth.
Dragons are also capable of working magic, although their nature is still unclear.
Real World Background[]
The name dragon is derived from the ancient Greek word Dracon, which means snake, where in the present many creatures are referred to as dragons that have the characteristics of a snake. Dragons are found in many Eastern and Western myths. In the West, dragons are usually depicted as massive winged reptiles, which can even usually spit fire and are even usually viewed negatively. A real peculiarity is that dragons are said to be hoarding treasures. On the one hand, there is the dragon Fafnir, who was originally a dwarf, but because of his greed for a gold treasure turned into a dragon and hoarded him until he was killed by the hero Siegfried. A nameless dragon, on the other hand, appears in the legend of Beowulf, who guarded a huge treasure. However, a thief stole the dragon's favorite chalice when he slept and furious about it, he devastated the lands. But the aged Beowulf and some of his faithful men faced him and were able to kill the dragon. Beowulf, however, was mortally wounded and asked his last surviving man Wiglaf to bury him with the treasures.
In the Eastern myths, dragons are presented rather positively, which are most likely to be associated with water. The eastern dragons are called Long in Chinese or Ryu in Japanese. They have a snake-like body, but have four short legs, the barteln of a carp and the antlers of a deer. They should live mainly in rivers, but also be able to fly, although they have no wings.
