Staghart, also known as "Amp," is a gargoyle and a member of the London Clan.

History[]

Staghart hatched in Knight's Spur, presumably alongside Coco. Over time, the two gargoyles became "best mates."

In 1996, Staghart and Coco met Lexington and Hudson of the Manhattan Clan. Staghart, Coco, Lexington, and Hudson with their human allies (Macbeth and King Arthur) acted as guardians for the Stone of Destiny's voyage from England to Scotland. While guarding over the stone, Coldsteel, Coyote, an Iron Clan robot, and a Steel Clan robot attacked Staghart and his companions. Lexington saved his life, and he, in return, saved Lexington's life. The two seem to have begun to develop a friendship.

Characteristics[]

Staghart strongly resembles a white bipedal stag with white feathered wings and cleft hooves as his feet. He has a very short tail. Despite Staghart's majestic appearance, he seems to be more of a fun-loving, adventurous (even somewhat nerdy) sort. He prefers the nickname "Amp," although few people use that name (according to Constance).

When asked whether he and Constance were mates, Staghart denied it vigorously, but with the equally firm assertion of her being a dear friend.

Notes[]

  • There is some suggestion that Staghart is homosexual, and that he may help Lexington realize he is of the same orientation. There is some speculation that the two will become mates but this has not been confirmed yet by Greg Weisman. At the CONverence 2011 Gargoyles panel, however, he did confirm that Lexington has a crush on Staghart.
  • The name Staghart is derived from the words "stag" and "hart," both of which are terms for an adult male deer, particularly the Red Deer species which is native to Europe and parts of Britain.
  • Staghart is designed to look like a white stag, perhaps as an allusion to the role that white stags and harts played in Arthurian romance and other medieval legends.
  • In the original Gargoyles comedy development, Amp was the name given to Brooklyn's character, though he looked more like Lexington at the time.
  • While writing for the comic book, Greg Weisman mentally cast new characters so he could hear a voice. For Staghart, his actor of choice was Alan Cumming.
